Elizabeth Olsen has no idea if Scarlet Witch is in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, and she’s not being coy about it. When asked directly at C2E2, she told the crowd she knows nothing about either film.
The question was posed in the usual way at these panels: a fan wanted to know if Wanda Maximoff would have a part in the next two Avengers movies. Deadline had caught the exchange. Olsen didn’t duck. She didn’t joke. She said flatly that she doesn’t know anything about Doomsday or Secret Wars, and explained why she likes it that way: being out of the loop means she can’t slip and spoil something in a room full of phones.
That’s a real tactic actors employ, not a rehearsed non-answer.
The catch is Olsen is not saying that the entire MCU is entirely dark. She says that of the projects she does know of, one is VisionQuest, but only because she bumped into Paul Bettany (Vision) sometime in the past six months. That’s a pretty low bar for “knowing a project”. It’s not insider access; it is proximity to a costar.
She even seemed to be working out the order of the release out loud, wondering if Secret Wars is just the thing that happens after Doomsday. If she wasn’t just riffing, it’s a comment on how tightly Marvel compartmentalizes its own actors.
The calendar counts here. Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars takes place almost exactly a year later, on December 17, 2027. That’s a lot of runway for Marvel to sit on casting news, and it’s the kind of gap that turns every convention appearance into a guessing game.
Olsen did not confirm she is in either film. She didn’t exclude herself either. She shrugged in the room instead of answering, probably the smartest thing a Marvel actor can say in public these days.
That hasn’t stopped the internet from filling in the gaps. Some outlets and fans have speculated Scarlet Witch will probably sit out the next crossover entirely, pointing to Olsen’s own comments as evidence. Others have gone so far as to suggest a possible plot link between Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom, though no one at Marvel has confirmed anything like that.
Then there’s the secrecy theory: that Olsen may know more than she’s letting on, the way Andrew Garfield spent months denying his Spider-Man: No Way Home return before it was revealed to be true. Good comparison, and exactly why fans don’t take a Marvel actor’s claim of ignorance at face value.
Some outlets have taken individual interviews and strung them together into a stronger determination, reporting her return as “unlikely” or outright stating she’s “not” in either film.
What Olsen said was more nuanced than that, and to take “safer for me to not know anything” as a blanket denial does a disservice to the story.
It wasn’t a leak, it wasn’t a denial, Olsen answered. It was an actor talking about how she survives a press cycle without being the reason a trailer leaks early. And beyond that, it’s all fans and outlets doing the very speculation Olsen said she tries to avoid: Doctor Doom theories, the Garfield comparison, confident “she’s out” takes.
The only quote that actually settles anything is the line she gave Gizmodo: “I would rather know nothing,” until Marvel says otherwise.
